Interviewing Kevin Spacey for the Daily Beast, the writer Kevin Sessums totally goes there , and flat out asks Spacey why he doesn't publicly acknowledge his homosexuality. (Has Sessums been brushing up on his Carrie Fisher? ) "We gay men have always proudly claimed you as a member of our tribe, and yet you don't proudly claim us back. Why?" The conversation stays surprisingly civilized, with Spacey never explicitly admitting anything, but implicitly acknowledging everything, while defending his right to do and be whatever the hell he pleases, privately, thank you very much.
Many contemporary novels and films mention a form of damnatio memoriae . Two early examples are the "vaporization" of " unpersons " in George Orwell 's 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four ("He did not exist; he never existed"); and the reference to the Egyptian practice in the 1956 movie The Ten Commandments , in which the Pharaoh Seti orders the name of Moses be struck from every building and never mentioned by anyone: "Do not look upon him. He is a traitor to the Pharaoh. Let the name of Moses be stricken from every book and tablet... stricken from all pylons and obelisks, stricken from every monument of Egypt. Let the name of... Moses be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of men for all time."
Vintage Bows I was written as an introduction to our hobby. 100 pages, ten chapters discussing the history of the bow and arrow, defining archery terms, mentioning the brands and history of the post-WWII era when the byproducts of the war (fiberglass and epoxy glues) allowed bow designers to create the modern recurve bow. Vintage Bows-II expands the information for the more advanced traditional archer with 18 chapters, 187 pages and over 200 photos with added details on the brands, models and production years; including added chapters on bow-string technology, tuning the arrow to match you and your bow and much more. The books are print-on-demand, typically drop shipped right from the printer to you. Paypal is the preferred method with the printers packing and mail charge included on the order page (button below). Clicking on the images below provides some content samples. Thanks for looking. Vintage Bows III just released (3/2014), continues where Vintage II left off. It contains new info on Browning recurves (models, years produced), Ben Pearson models and years, Shakespeare models and years, the bows of Ernie Root and more.
